Each year a golf tournament is held in memory of Philip Hafer, a former Apex High School and Cary American Legion baseball player that was murdered when he went to the aid of a friend who was being savagely beaten. All proceeds of this tournament go to a scholarship fund honoring the student receiving the Sportsmanship Award for the Cary American Legion baseball team and a donation is given to N.C.VAN (North Carolina Victim Assistance Network).
